All this would justify publication as an act of pietas, but there is much more to be gained by anyone with a serious interest in Greek tragedy. (…) Fraenkel's fine sense of style is brought out in his remarks on vulgar and colloquial language. (…) He also makes the more novel point that a lapse into vulgar language on the part of a dignified character betrays excited emotion (…). Sentence-structure, too, may be a clue to character (…). His insistence on the need to visualize the stage action points out in a direction followed by recent scholars.
