HENRY, Madeleine Mary,
Menander's Courtesans and the Greek Comic Tradition.
Peter Lang, Frankfurt am Main (...), 1985. 148p. Paperback.
'The central chapter of this dissertation is an analysis in 63 pages of Menander's Epitrepontes, Samia, Perikeiromene, Sikonyos, Dis Exapaton and Misoumenos, concentrating particularly on the portrayal of 'courtesans' in these plays. This is preceded by chapters on 'The Courtesan in Greek Literature through the End of the Fifth Century' and 'Hetairai in Middle and New Comedy Exclusive of Menander' and followed by an Appendix in which the fragments of other Menandrian plays are scrutinised for any light they might shed on his portrayal of courtesans.' (P.G.McC. BROWN in The Classical Review (New Series), 1987, pp.99-100). From the library of the late Prof. W. Geoffrey Arnott.
