'Systematic work on the text and its exegesis, has been sparse. Walter Stockert's critical edition, which is based on a fresh examination of the manuscripts and the secondary tradition, and his commentary, which endeavours to confront every specific problem posed by the text, are therefore welcome. He gives us in addition a bibliography and a set of introductory essays: on the transmission of the text, on the content of the comedy, on the lost ending, on the Attic original, on the characterisation of the personages, on the way the poet meant the comedy to be performed, on the date of the first performance, and the comedy's influence on later European drama. (...) Despite its shortcomings this work will assist students of the Aulularia.' (H.D. JOCELYN in The Classical Review (New Series), 1985, pp.268-72). From the library of the late Prof. W. Geoffrey Arnott.
