  • Wissen und Erkennen bei Sophokles. Friedrich Reinhardt Verlag, Basel / Berlin, 1993. XXXI,457p. Sewn. Cover slightly worn and repaired with acid free adhesive tape. 'This book presents an exhaustive semantic analysis of Sophocles' vocabulary for knowledge and cognition in the extant palys and fragments. C. examines first 'Wissen' (...) and secondly 'Erkennen' (...). In every case she provides a brief comparison with the vocabulary of Aeschylus and Euripides. the third, and shortest section of the book involves a comparison of Sophocles' language with that of Thucydides, who provides a control for the conclusions which have been reached for Sophocles. C. performs her task with great thoroughness and sensitivity, and is largely successful in showing that, despite overlaps among the various words, they are generally used by Sophocles with different nunces and in different contexts.' (A.F. GARVIE in The Classical Review (New Series), 1995, p.229). € 55.00 (Antiquarian) ISBN: 9783724507840
