Heraclidae. With Introduction and Commentary by John Wilkins. Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1995. 1st paperback ed. XXXVI,198p. Paperback. Nice copy. 'Euripides' 'Heraclidae' has been a relatively neglected play, one of its difficulties being that it is incomplete, with at least one - quite possibly very substantial - lacuna. the situation has not been helped by the fact that there has been no modern commentary on the play, but now John Wilkins usefully answers this need (...) A concentrated introduction discusses the myth and its treatment in literature and art, the play's religious and social context, its date (probably 430), the problems caused by the uncertainties of the text, and possible Euripidean innovations (...). The commentary is largely philological - dense, detailed, and scholarly (...).' (JENNY MARCH in Greece & Rome, 1994, p.85). (Antiquarian)  (approx. delivery time: undeliverable) ISBN: 9780198150244
