It is designed for the pockets and handbags of visitors to Rome who know Latin, and want to refe to the literary sources on the monuments (or sites of vanished monuments) at which they are standing. The aim is laudable, and at one level the result is wholly successful: over 600 pages in a truly pocket-sized book only 2 cm thick, with good plans, pages for notes (...). But there are three drawbacks. (a) For all too credible financial reasons, no Greek sources could be included (....). (b) The topographical material is out of date (...). (c) What about the visitor to Rome who does not know Latin?' (T.P. WISEMAN in THE JOURNAL OF ROMAN STUDIES, 1978, p.243). € 80.00 (Antiquarian) ISBN: 9789004050563
