Carmina. Aliorumque Carmina. Edidit G. Luck.
Teubner, Leipzig, 1988. XXXVII,117p. Paperback. Series: Bibliotheca Teubneriana. Nice copy. 'Georg Luck’s new Teubner text of the ‘Corpus Tibullianum’ incorporates the latest research on the Tibullan tradition (especially the article by Reeve and rouse in ‘Texts and Transmission’), and offers in addition both a full survey of the incunabula and the fullest enumeration of Tibullan manuscripts ever assembled. There is, however, little new in his choice of manuscripts. (…) L.’s text is notable for its laudable skepticism toward the paradosis. Many variants and conjectures are cited from L.’s own manuscripts or from the codices of earlier editors (…); not all deserve commemoration (…) Allusions to the manuscripts of earlier scholars are sometimes cryptic (…). L.’s edition should serve as both a spark and a tool for further profitable study, as well as shaking the current complacency about the text itself. It is therefore the more unfortunate that minor error should appear in such abundance.’ (JAMES L. BUTRICA in The classical Review (New Series), 1989, pp.211-212).
